Spring Break - Seattle

This year we decided to fly to the girls instead of having them fly to us for Spring Break.  We rented a car and drove up to Seattle for a few days.  It was definitely not a warm, sunny Spring Break...maybe one of these years we'll have to go to Arizona.

Anyway, Matt & I flew out on Monday evening and stayed with the girls that night.  We got to meet their baby sister Rylie - who is just too cute!  We headed out of town Tuesday morning and drove west - to the ocean.  Matt & I - well, mostly I - had this great idea to have a continuation of our Pacific Coast Highway trip and drive parts of it in Oregon and Washington.  I don't think we hit the right parts b/c we really didn't see much, if any ocean.  Oh well - what we saw was still beautiful.  We stayed at a hotel in downtown Seattle Tuesday night but we arrived in town earlier to catch a movie...Hunger Games.  Lynzee enjoyed it.  Abbey was disturbed by the movie and had a hard time sleeping that night.  I thought it was okay (haven't read the books) - but was really bothered by children killing children.

Luckily, the next day was fairly dry.  We carried out umbrellas but didn't open them once.  We took the monorail to the Seattle Center and went up the Space Needle.

There are a number of attractions at the Seattle Center so after the Space Needle, we went to the EMP Museum - which is a rock and roll museum...and some Sci Fi.  Needless to say, Matt was in heaven!  The funnest thing for me was when we pretended we were a band and performed Joan Jett's I Love Rock N' Roll.  I was the vocals, Matt was drums, Abbey was guitar and Lynzee was keyboard.  The instruments were all real - including my voice.  It really was fun - unfortunately I don't have pictures.  Lynzee had to be convinced for about 5 minutes to come with us.  She was so not excited and you could tell by the picture they took of us.  But she came in with us.  After probably 3-4 hours in the museum, we walked the labyrinth just outside the EMP.

On Thursday, it was raining hard and the wind was blowing.  We stopped at a corner Seattle's Best Coffee for breakfast and my umbrella broke.  After breakfast, we stopped across the street at Ross and bought a new one - my only Seattle souvenir.  We continued walking to Pike Market and then from there to the Aquarium.  Also in that part of Seattle is a gift shop/museum called Ye Old Curiosity Shop that has lots of unusual items on display.  It was quite interesting looking at those.  We ended that visit with some freaky glasses.  After another walk through Pike Market, it was back to the hotel to get our luggage and car for the drive back to Portland.  We met with Aunt Jannet, Uncle Bill and Ryan for dinner and had a really nice visit with them.  We did have a great time with the girls and look forward to seeing them again in July!
